Iditarod is coming! I'll be at the finish this year, in Nome, for the 7th year in a row. Maybe I will have some time to send some on-the-scene reports and updates from the finish line around the 13th or so...we'll see how well I can post from my Auntie's computer!
This year, we're also taking a detour to Homer, Alaska. My dad recently got a little cabin up there, and we're going to spend some time working on fixing it up. Should be a fun time. Maybe I'll get lucky and spot my favorite Homer native up there...yeah, probably not.
Go to the Iditarod website and check out the race history, former Iditarod winners, and of course, keep track of the race! Cabela's also has a great site for consistent race updates.
Of course, I'll be pulling for my favorite musher this year, Martin Buser. He'll be racing to try to win his 5th race, hoping to tie Rick Swenson's all-time record. He's not only a great musher, but a great guy.
That's all for now. Time to go catch some Z's and dream about my Alaska vacation.

geocaching
I have been putting a lot of time into this sport recently. It's funny to call it a sport--I think it's more like a game-- but it does involve a lot of hiking around, so I get it. For those of you that don't know, geocaching is an activity that involves your feet, your Easter Egg hunting ability, and a GPS. I am pretty much hooked on it now...I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner, since I use a GPS frequently on the job. Anyway, pretty much all i think about these days is bagging my next cache. I think I've done a good job getting my Dad hooked into it as well. We've been caching the last two weekends...I'm betting he'll buy his first GPS soon.
So... I highly recommend geocaching as a hobby...it's a great way to get out, see the world, get some exercise, use your brain, and have fun.
Go to: www.geocaching.com to get started (if you have a GPS already). Good luck, and I'll catch you on the hunt!

things that rule, things that suck (first in a series)
things that rule(d) this week. 02.09.06
1. Steve Martin and Prince on SNL. I watched the intro, loved it. Too cool that they're both on at the same time.
2. U2 winning a bunch of Grammys last nite. My favorite band ever. They deserve it, and I hope it means they have a bunch of music left in them.
3. My wife's cooking. Marci cooked an Indian buffet at home. We even had nan. Now that's awesome!
4. Winter Mountain Biking. Well, a little sunlight did help in this case.
5. Lost. Alright, this week's episode wasn't as good as some, but it did set up some future ass-kickin'. Consistently a well done show.
6. Field time. Yes, I escaped the office after weeks of writing reports at my desk. The ticks welcomed me home.
7. Gorilla Mask. I could surf on this site for hours.
things that suck(ed) this week.
1. I missed everything on SNL past the opening monologue. Can anyone with TIVO help?
2. Sly Stone appearing and disappearing from the performance on the Grammys. What happened here? Drug break? Nice mohawk, Sly.
3. George Bush. Now he's going to start talking about terrorist attacks that were thwarted several years ago. What's wrong Georgie, polls got ya down?
4. Sunlight. There's too damn much of it here, it's melting the snow, and it's too hot. It's winter for God's sake!
5. Not enough sleep. Yeah, what else is new. I guess I'm to blame...I just don't bounce back from exercise like I used to.
6. Super Bowl. Super BORE! One of the worst in recent memory. Boring game, bad calls, horrible football. Next!
7. Gorilla Mask. Gall darn ya, Gorilla Mask, I need to get back to work!
